About Campagnolo~
Campagnolo Wheel Specs PDF~Campagnolo´s manufacturing activities began in 1933 in a small workshop in Vicenza.
In the early 20ies the founder of the company, Tullio Campagnolo, was a rising star on the Italian cycling scene.
One of the many racing events of those years, on November 11 1927, marked the beginning of Campagnolo´s adventure in industrial design.
When Tullio Campagnolo was forced to withdraw from a race at the top of the Croce d´Aune Pass in the Dolomites because of adverse weather conditions, he conceived the idea to develop a quick release mechanism for bicycle wheels. This and many of the ideas that followed were to mark decisive stages in the development of the modern competition bicycle.
In 1930 the famous "rod" gear was patented and officially presented to the world of high-precision mechanical engineering in the field of sports.
This was only to remain the first step: new designs and patents were to bring about radical changes in the world of cycling enthusiasts. In connection with the names of the greatest champions of their time, Campagnolo products became symbols of success and victory.
Sometimes it is just a short step from victory to fame, and thus Campagnolo, faced with an increasing demand coming from markets all over the world, had to adapt and develop itself on a larger scale.
Many of the most renowned bicycle manufacturers of the time, began using Campagnolo products with great success. The rod gear gave way to a rear derailleur with an articulated parallelogram which paved the way to modern cycling and permanently linked the name of its inventor to the product.
The ten years between 1930, when the first Campagnolo patent was registered, and 1940 represent the foundation period of the company. Tullio Campagnolo gave up his sporting career to totally commit himself to his business.
The secrets of his success lay in a first-hand racing experience, constancy of purpose, technical perfectionism and a strong sense for publicity which was to link the name of the most notorious cyclists of the time with Campagnolo's gear shifting system.
In 1940 Tullio Campagnolo hired his first employee. In the immediate postwar period the company was extremely successful, growing rapidly in size, until employing a total of 123 workers in 1950 and thus joining the category of Vicenza's mid-sized industrial enterprises.
Tullio Campagnolo was relentless in his quest for technical innovation; following the development of both a front and rear derailleur, the company started producing cranksets, brakes, and head sets.
Every new patent was based on a habit of constantly keeping a close eye on the market developments, together with a continuous research for the best possible combination of performance and aesthetics, with great care of every detail.
In 1955 the first complete component group-set was presented and in 1960 a period of great expansion set in for Campagnolo.~~2303~2314~~
