Race Report From The Beaver
Four members of the Team Trisports Development Squad competed in the second round of their Club Championship at The Beaver Triathlon on Saturday.
The race, a middle-distance event which featured a gruelling 1.2 mile swim, 54 mile bike ride and 13.1 mile run on one of the toughest triathlon courses in the country, saw great performances by all three athletes, who also had to contend with wet and windy weather conditions in addition to the challenging course layout.
Kate Turner was the female winner of round two of the championship in a time of 5:19:34, whist Katy Jinks made the most of her great swim time to stop the clock at 5:27:29 for a well deserved second place finish. Finishing just one place behind in third, Gemma Sargent, winner of round one, also dipped below five and a half hours on her way to a finishing time of 5:28:08. All three performances were all the more impressive as the race marked the first time any of them had competed in a middle distance event.
In the men’s race, it was two wins from two starts for Adam Laycock, who enjoyed a race long battle with fellow Ironman specialist Gavin May as they both dominated the second round of the Team Trisports club championship. There was also a great performance from Simon “Bam” Douglas, competing over his favoured distance, as he knocked nearly 25 minutes off his time from last year’s event to cross the line in 5:37:59.
